Boy Scout Train Show - 2003

Again this year, PWMRC teamed with Boy Scout troop 964, The Potomac Module Crew and the Piedmont Railroaders to put together the largest HO modular layout in the mid-Atlantic region.  With more than 110 modules, we filled the gymnasium at Saunders Middle School in Dale City, Virginia.  The two day show was March 15 & 16, 2003 and is a major event for Boy Scout Troop 964.  We are pleased to be able to support the Scouts.

During the show the HO layout featured full digital control and radio dispatching from a large main yard and several small yards and sidings.  All four groups worked together to produce a smooth running operation.  PWMRC also provided seven model railroading clinics during the show and several members provided instruction for the merit badge activities.  This year's photos feature trains and modules from all the groups.  Enjoy the photos.

Southern 2177 leads a long freight through the pine forest.  That's Ernie's Southern on Jim's module.

The Nickel City Line has introduced slight changes to it's paint scheme with larger letters and a bolder design.  Modeled by Bob R.

Here's a long Pennsylvania coal drag as modeled by John S.

The traffic was so heavy, we saw Bill G.'s R F & P glide through Manassas Yard.  That's Russ's Norfolk Southern on the siding in his yard module.

The steepest grade on the entire layout is no match for Ed's Shay.

Rounding the curve with a long string of freight cars is the CSX as modeled by Mike W.

Here's another view of John's PRR as it heads through the mountains with a heavy load of coal.

The barge scene by John H. is alive with action as Russ's Norfolk Southern passes by.  That truck looks like it is very overloaded.

Robin's airfield module continues to evolve.  This completely scratch built loading dock includes LED lighting.

When we said it was a big layout, we meant it.  Here's a Southern Pacific cab forward that's a long way from home.  Model by Ed P.

A dangerous spot for a photo, fortunately our photographer can jump out of the way before the slow-moving Shay runs him over.  The fine running Shay is by Ed P.

The Lego layout is always very popular and this year was no exception.  Models by Benjamin K.

The last time we saw these Scouts, they were just entering the tunnel.  It appears they found much more than they expected.  The cubs are cute, but the parents look a bit "concerned".
