The Prince William County Model Railroader's has served the
Northern Virginia area for over 30 years. The club was created
with the primary purpose of sharing the hobby of Model
Railroading with the public.
The club started with a small layout in the back of a Woodbridge, VA hobby
shop. With the closing of the store, they focused on transportable modules
built to NMRA standards, with the modules owned by both the club and its
members. In the course of the year, PWMRC will do 10-12 shows throughout the
county and at train shows in the Washington and Baltimore areas. Show
locations include county libraries (Chin Center, Gainesville, Bull Run,
Montclair, Lake Ridge, and Manassas), Chantilly, Timonium MD, and the
Manassas Trainfest.
The long term goal of the PWMRC is to establish itself as a world class
model railroad on the outskirts of the nation’s capital and to become
a destination attraction for model railroaders and vacationers in general.
To reach that goal, the club reformed as the Prince William Model Railroad
Crew as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization in Feb 2024.
The PWMRC is always looking for new members, whether they are
seasoned railroaders or people new to the hobby. We have a
relaxed atmosphere and encourage members to run the equipment
and railroads that interest them. The club is proud of its
Junior Members program which introduces the hobby to boys and
girls between the ages of 8-17. The club also hosts clinics and
operating sessions, as well as member meetings. Meetings and
events are usually open to visitors and potential new members,
so come out and meet us.
